This weekend, The Racing Day welcomed 95,000 visitors to the TT Circuit Assen. Thanks to the beautiful summer weather, the public flocked to the largest combined car, motorcycle and kart racing event in Europe. Visitors enjoyed many spectacular competitions and demonstrations, culminating in the Formula 1 demonstration by the Red Bull Racing F1 team, led by Scottish F1 legend David Coulthard.
Assen City Demo
The Racing Day weekend started on Thursday with impressive demonstrations in the center of Assen, in honor of the 25th anniversary of the event. Cars, motorcycles, karts and Formula 1 cars attracted thousands of racing fans to the city center of Assen, where they enjoyed the action along the Vaa.
Spectacular demonstrations
The anniversary edition of The Racing Day at the TT Circuit Assen offered the enthusiastic public numerous spectacular demonstrations. In addition to the Red Bull Racing team, there were more Formula 1 cars to admire, including a beautiful ex-Schumacher Ferrari. In addition, there was a Supersport demo by Glenn van Straalen on the Ten Kate Racing Yamaha and the innovative flying car, the PAL-V Liberty. More than thirty super and hypercars were on display, and Volvo's electric rallycross car was demonstrated to the public.
Exciting competitions
The event offered a full program with exciting competitions in various racing classes. Lee Harpham dominated the Dutch GP Superkarts by winning both the second and third races on Sunday. In the motorcycle class of the Benelux Trophy, Milan Merckelbagh took victory in the first race, while Colin Velthuizen climbed to the top step of the podium in the second race.
Close racing
In the BOSSGP it was Juju Noda (daughter of former F1 driver Hideki Noda) who triumphed, while Marco Ghiotto and Max Cuccarese finished second and third respectively in the race on Sunday. In the Porsche Carrera Cup, guest driver and top driver Larry ten Voorde showed his dominance by also winning the second race of the weekend. Dirk Schouten finished second, four seconds ahead of Wouter Boerekamps. The duo Bridle and Bridle took revenge in the second race of the Supercar Challenge by taking victory with a lead of more than two seconds over Max Koebolt.
