For the first time in history the TT Circuit Assen hosts the FIM Motocross World Championship for the Dutch Motocross Grand Prix. LDP and Motorclub Assen en Omstreken unite in the 'Motocross Grand Prix Assen Foundation' to organize the Dutch Motocross Grand Prix on a temporary purpose-built MXGP track which runs alongside the grand stands and across the paddock.
The five-year deal culminates in 2019 with the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations which is won by Team Netherlands for the first time in history. A year earlier, in 2018, Jeffrey Herlings becomes the first ever Dutch MXGP World champion in 'The Cathedral of Speed' in front of his home crowd.
